CRFC U12s Match Report 2006-11-26

High drama at Redingensians on Sunday 26th November when lightning stopped play. I am very pleased to report that neither of the spectators who received shocks were seriously injured.

Although Camberley were 7 - 0 down at half time when the match was cancelled, they felt that the match was well within their grasp. The first half had seen Camberley with most of the possession in their opponents half and the Redingensians try came from a breakaway against the run of play. Throughout the half Camberley forwards had won every scrum but one against the head, stolen the ball at lineout on numerous occasions and rucked redingensians off the ball. In atrocious conditions the backs managed to pass the ball fluently and maintain the pressure on Redingensians.

There is no doubt that Camberley are now playing good rugby in all departments and with a little more variety in their play will be capable of beating any side, under any conditions. It is just a shame that on this occasion the conditions did not allow the match to be brought to a conclusion.

Apart from failing to arrange the weather, Redingensians were excellent hosts who served up some challenging rugby on the pitch and even served up food for the players afterwards. We look forward to the rematch!

CRFC U12s Match Report 2006-11-19

The visit from Effingham & Leatherhead saw Camberley U12s continue their upward progress. As in the past few weeks the visitors did not have enough players for two full teams so played with rolling subs. This meant that Camberley Dev. Team had to play against essentially the same team as the A's played against.

Going out first the Dev. team arguably had the harder task of meeting a fresh Effingham team and were unlucky to end the half two tries down. This was amply demonstrated by the fact that in their second half of play the Dev. team held Effingham and were unlucky not to score themselves.

Having been softened up by the Dev. team Effingham competed well against Camberley A but were unable to match the ferocity and fluidity of Camberley Rugby. Again the team spirit in Camberley was demonstrated by two players agreeing that the first try was a joint effort. Well done to Connor Hadden and Rory. In the second half Rory put his name on the score sheet with a lovely set piece move with a crash ball that placed him in front of the pack to be driven over the line for a try.

Camberley A put five converted tries past Effingham without conceding any. This was a fine display against a good opposition. The team linked up well with the forwards winning plenty of ball and providing a good mix of driving and getting the ball out early to the backs. From the coaches point of view it was particularly pleasing to see moves worked on in training working out on the pitch.

Well Done & Keep it Up,

Dave.

CRFC U12s Match Report 2006-11-12

Sunday 12th saw a very good turn-out at Old Rutlishians considering this was
Remembrance Sunday and many people were committed elsewhere. Everyone
deserves a big thank you for your efforts this year to support your children

and make sure that they are always available for training and matches. This
committment is certainly paying off on the field.

For the second week in a row Camberley Under 12s played excellent rugby with

the A team winning their match and the Development team coming a close
second. Both teams played against the same Old Ruts team and the results
show the strength in depth that Camberley possess.

The development team were the wrong side of a 21-0 score but that belied the

closeness of the game. The Dev Team were particularly unlucky not to score
when William Hassell made a dramatic breakway to run three quarters of the
pitch length but was bundled into touch just before the try line. Great
spirit was shown by many players such as when David Radkiewicz made a tackle

from behind and in bringin the man down received a boot in the face. David
just winced with pain and picked himself up to make the next tackle. Well
done! Another try saving tackle was made by Josh Harvey who had to run
towards the corner to intercept an Old Ruts player who had slipped through
the defensive line. Josh gave his all and managed to take the player out
just in time.

The A team scored 12 points against Old Ruts and were deserving winners. The

rugby was not quite as fluent as the previous week against Guildford &
Godalming. This may have been caused by Camberley's dominance in the pack
with the forwards winning at least two scrums against the head and stealing
some line-outs. The first try was mauled over the line with Jack Robinson
and Tom Daly sportingly agreeing to share the credit as they both had a hand

on the ball when it was grounded. Elliott Harvey converted for another two
points. Obviously not satisfied with half a try, Tom went on to get one of
his own after a powerful drive by the forwards.

Much to the disappointment of some parents there was no pitch invasion this
week and all the matches were played in a very good spirit.

Hopefully we can continue this high standard when we entertain Effingham at Watchetts Park next Sunday. Don't forget that we have the social afterwards. There will be a sheet in the clubhouse this Wednesday for anyone who has not already booked their food (Curry or Pizza).

Cobham festival: Sun 1st Oct 06

Registration is at 0930 and first game is usually at 10.00. My experience of these festivals is that they can run on to around 3pm depending on progress.

Directions to Cobham RFC (click "To here" to get directions)
Cobham RFC : http://www.cobhamrfc.com/minis.htm (check out the opposition)

Points to note:
A) make sure the kids have plenty of fluids and some food with them (I would avoid burgers etc on the day until we have finished playing. Light sandwiches, fruit etc make more sense)
B) bring layers of clothing - they need to stay warm and dry between matches - this will be your responsibility
C) Make sure they pack gumshields - no gumshield, no play
D) pls check their studs, and if in any doubt replace them. they need to have proper rugby studs in their - most shops supply them and they are a few quid.
E) cost is £6 per player for the festival.
